Why Málaga City is an Art Lover's Paradise

In recent years, Málaga has cemented its reputation as a one-of-a-kind cultural experience encompassing food, music and, especially, art.

On top of Málaga’s exceptional weather, world-renowned beaches, majestic castles, and unique destinations. Malaga has a wealth of museums and galleries that will make every art enthusiast drool with excitement. We’ve put together a list of the best museums to visit in the area:

Picasso Museum

The Museo Picasso Málaga is one of Málaga’s most popular tourist destinations, housing ceramics, paintings, sculptures and tapestries from one of the one of the world’s most prolific neoclassical artists, Pablo Picasso, born in Málaga in 1881. The museum displays some of Picasso’s most important works, created over 8 decades, and is one of the three Picasso museums in Europe.

Automobile Museum of Málaga

When you think of classic automobiles, Málaga probably doesn’t spring to mind yet, surprisingly, the Automobile Museum of Málaga houses an impressive collection of cars and is considered one of the most important vintage car collections in the world. Thus, this museum is a must for car lovers everywhere.

The automobiles are showcased as works of art, design, and craftsmanship. Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, and Jaguar are some of the top manufacturers that are represented in the collection, valued at around 25 millions euros! What’s more, the exhibition space showcases exquisite examples of fashion from the early 20th Century to today, detailing not only how design trends in cars have changed, but in fashion through the ages too.

Contemporary Art Center of Málaga (CAC)

The Museo y Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga, or the Contemporary Art Center of Málaga (CAC), boasts 400 pieces of modern art and installations on loan, proudly displayed in its impressive exhibition space. Entrance is free and there is an onsite restaurant and bookshop. Workshops and talks are held regularly and it’s not uncommon for artists to be seen chatting with visitors in the gallery itself.

This is just a small selection of museums in Málaga and we highly recommend delving deeper into the eclectic mix of creativity this vibrant city offers!
