Costa del Sol

With the lively and regenerated Málaga city as the province’s capital, the Costa del Sol stretches some 160km (100miles) along the coast of the autonomous region of Andalusia (Andalucía) in southern Spain. From Nerja (58km to the east of Málaga) to Manilva, around 100km to the west, the Costa del Sol is a stretch of coastline that is renowned throughout Europe and beyond as a tourist destination hotspot and a truly wonderful place to live.

Thanks to its beautiful beaches, excellent all year round weather and a culture steeped in history, the Andalucian coastline continues to entice visitors from around the globe. Indeed, Málaga International Airport has shown year-on-year growth since 2012, with a record 18.5 million passengers having travelled through its three terminals in 2017. Furthermore, with more airline carriers flying new routes to and from all around Europe, the Middle East, including Doha, Kuwait, Jeddah, as well as the US and Canada, all signs are for continued visitor number growth.

The region is renowned for a healthy lifestyle, stunning scenery, excellent transport links and award-winning restaurant culture. Additionally, thanks to the all year round climate, the Costa del Sol is home to around 60 golf courses, all in amongst beautiful surroundings. With a wide range of activities on offer, the Costa del Sol really does have something for everyone and has a rich history of being a first choice destination for those looking for a holiday, a second home in the sun, or even a permanent lifestyle change.

With offices in Marbella and Mijas Costa areas, APEX Marbella Property specialises in the towns and districts listed below. We believe these geographical areas will always attract a following and offer a stronger investment potential in comparison to less well established locations along the coast. Furthermore, the areas in which we operate offer a wider range of property choices, from one-bedroom studios in town, through townhouses on the golf course, to stunning beachside villas with spectacular sea views – there really is something for everyone.

Marbella

Of all the areas in Andalucia, it is Marbella, located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, that is most likely to be associated as being the ‘jewel in the crown’.

Enjoying clear blue skies and bright sunshine for approximately 320 days per year, and miles of golden sandy beaches that meet the beautiful blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Marbella is a highly residential resort and is the second most populated municipality of the province of Málaga.

Located just 40 minutes’ drive from the airport and with a policy of low density, low rise construction, Marbella has long enjoyed a glowing reputation as an oasis of quality within a sumptuous sub-tropical setting.

Marbella first started to become popular with world-famous celebrities visiting in the late 1950s and has retained its image as a playground for the international jet set. However, the municipality of Marbella consists of many different districts and is predominantly a family-oriented beach haven, offering something to suit all tastes and nationalities, including the delightful, historical Old Town with its Moorish influences, the marinas offering catamaran and boat trips, along with scuba diving adventures, and a wealth of restaurants and bars from which to watch the stunning sunsets.

In recent years, the strongest growth in the real estate sector of Marbella has been in apartments priced between 300.000€ to 700.000€ and villas between 700.000€ and 2.500.000€. The increase of sales volume for Marbella in 2017 was almost 7,0% and prices are rising steadily.

Elviria

Elviria is an established commercial and residential neighbourhood of Marbella East, within just 10 minutes’ drive of Marbella town centre. It is home to a balanced mix of Spanish nationals and foreign residents, both permanent residents and second homeowners, all enticed by the proximity to Marbella centre, renowned international schools and some of the best beaches and golf courses in the area.

Under the official town hall plan (PGOU), large swathes of Elviria are designated green zones to be protected from construction. This helps retain green, lush protected landscape of natural pines, serving as a vivid backdrop against the clear blue skies of Marbella East, whilst also strengthening demand and property values. Despite the green zone protection, a good selection of highly sought-after quality apartments and villas can be found, superbly supported by excellent amenities and transport links.

Cabopino

The district of Cabopino nestles on the edge of a protected site of natural sand dunes and in amongst an abundance of fauna and flora on the boundary of Marbella East. Literally translated as ‘Pine Cape’, the area stretches from the golden sandy beaches and picturesque marina with attractive apartments and luxury villas, up towards Cabopino Alta where modern, new-build apartments, townhouses and villas are in the process of being built.

Cabopino Alta is also home to Cabopino Golf Course and the area enjoys panoramic sea views to North Africa, with the curve of the Costa del Sol turning towards Gibraltar, clearly visible most days throughout the year. It is in this area that a number of new build developments have recently begun, generally being of contemporary design, having state of the art home entertainment and controls, most with large windows and excellent vantage points for appreciating the very best of views.

Large reinvestment projects have been allocated by Marbella town hall to rejuvenate Cabopino marina to be better than ever. Together with the new builds, such projects are likely to have additional positive impacts on property demand and values in the area. The beaches of Cabopino are already of the most popular on the coast and the area is a favourite of locals and tourists alike. Continued subtle new growth of the area should serve only to further increase its appeal.

La Cala De Mijas

Located midway between the popular resort of Fuengirola and exclusive Marbella, La Cala de Mijas is a very popular area of Mijas Costa, offering a charming village atmosphere and is home to melting pot of nationalities.

With an array of local amenities, from independent boutiques in amongst narrow Spanish streets to a choice of all the major supermarkets, plus a long, deep sandy beach with elevated boardwalk and a growing gastronomic/restaurant culture, it’s easy to see why La Cala’s popularity is soaring. La Cala Golf is home to several of the best golf courses on the coast and includes a renowned golfing academy, attracting interest from all over the world.

There are many new apartment complexes and individual villas being constructed in this area, with very many more in the process of being released off-plan. Development in this area has been significant in recent years, although local town planning has maintained a low-rise-only policy to keep the visual impact appealing. This area is currently a hotspot for construction investment and growth.

Estepona

If Marbella is known as the Costa del Sol's 'jewel in the crown' then Estepona deservedly claims the title of 'garden of the Costa del Sol', thanks to its extensive green areas, regulated planning permission and low density build. Spread across a fertile valley, with the impressive Sierra Bermeja as a stunning backdrop, Estepona has become a holiday hotspot and a desirable postcode for permanent residence too. Wide, golden sandy beaches spread 21kms along its coastline, and local gastronomy, impressive traditional architecture and a welcoming residential population ensure that Estepona's popularity continues to shine.

Equidistant from the exclusive enclaves of Marbella and Sotogrande (less than 30 minutes' drive), Estepona has great access. Málaga International Airport is less than an hours' drive, and visitors can also choose to arrive through Gibraltar International Airport, just 40 minutes away.
