Top Golf Courses on the Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol is a region in Southern Spain that is not only famous for its excellent beaches, legendary beach parties, and gastronomic offerings. People also visit this dream destination to play a round (or more) of golf!
We’ve gathered a list of the top golf courses you can find while you’re having a blast in Costa del Sol.
Real Club Valderrama
Arguably, the top-rated golf course on this list, Real Club Valderrama, should be on everyone’s must-visit list.
As a golf player, you’ll probably notice its eccentric design styles. For example, you’ll see trees in the strangest places, usually placed in the way where you want to hit the ball, greens that can be deceptively difficult to decipher, and fairways that can be hard to find.
Nonetheless, all these quirks just make Real Club Valderrama an intriguing destination. Fair warning though, it is expensive. However, we believe that there is no substitute for quality and the unforgettable experience it offers.
Opened a couple of years after Real Club Valderrama, Torrequebrada remains one of the favorites for many visitors within Costa del Sol. Its classic and elegant design from 1976 still proves to be functional and relevant today.
It’s a wonder to see how the holes fit seamlessly with the landscape and the variety of trees give the course a relaxing tropical ambiance. Its wide fairways and large greens are bordered by both sand and water that has been expertly placed to catch the wayward shot making it a great course to play..
The Clubhouse is also a great place to lounge in while getting to know your fellow players and watching them struggle with the course’s notorious 18th hole.
Designed by Cabell Robinson and opened in 2006, this 6945-yard golf course is one of the “younger” ones on this list. While Valderrama remains the ‘gold standard’ when it comes to golf courses, Finca Cortesin comes a close second.
Finca Cortesin can be stretched to nearly 7700 yards from the Championship tees. It enjoyed worldwide prominence when it hosted the World Matchplay Championship. Its theme and design are aesthetically pleasing and built naturally in its surroundings. Finca Cortesin has the honor of being regularly ranked in the top 20 courses in Europe. The fairways snake through a valley and players certainly feel connected with surrounding nature while playing this course.
Other golf courses on the Costa del Sol worth visiting are Cabopino Golf, Santana Golf, La Cala Golf Resort, Marbella Golf Club, Rio Real Golf, Los Naranjos, and Santa Maria Golf in Elviria.
