Get to Know the Districts of Marbella!
Located within Spain’s Costa del Sol, Marbella is a hard-to-beat beach destination, popular amongst all classes of tourists, whether they’re celebrities or ordinary travellers like you and me. There’s something for everyone in Marbella!
The Andalusian region is famous for offering a perfect combination of fun and leisure. Whether you want to bask in the radiance of the Spanish sun or discover the historic sites of the charming Old Town, play a few rounds of golf, or party like there’s no tomorrow at a glamorous beach club, Marbella is the place to be.
We’ve gathered a list of the must-see area, should you find yourself within this lovely town:
Marbella Centro
Marbella’s Old Town is considered one of the most beautiful historic districts of the Costa del Sol. The Old Town is known for its whitewashed houses with red tiles and its many narrow winding alleyways and cobbled streets.
Barrio Alto, one of the oldest settlements in the Old Town, features a typical Arab Medina layout and several historical attractions such as the ruins of the 10th-century castle, the city walls, the Church of Santa María de la Encarnación, and the Casa del Roque.
Not to miss is the Old Town’s Plaza de Los Naranjos, a Renaissance-style square dotted with several restaurants and cafés, which is surrounded by some of the prettiest buildings in Marbella, such as the Town Hall, the Mayor’s House, and the Chapel of Santiago.
La Bajadilla Beach, Venus Beach, and La Fontanilla Beach are some of the famous beaches are just a few minutes’ stroll from the Old Town.
San Pedro de Alcántara
Located some 10 km west of the Old Town and 3 km from Puerto Banús, San Pedro de Alcántara is one of Marbella’s outlying districts.
Founded in the latter part of the 19th century, San Pedro is known for several historic attractions like the Las Bóvedas Roman Baths and Watchtower, the Paleo-Christian Basilica of Vega de Mar, and the buildings of the San Pedro de Alcántara colony (reflecting the district’s agricultural beginnings).
The main beaches in San Pedro de Alcántara are renowned for their calm waters and include San Pedro, Cortijo Blanco, Linda Vista, and Guadalmina.
Cabopino
Cabopino is a small yet perfectly-formed, family-friendly beach, ideal for escaping tourist hot-spots. It is a great location for relaxation and the shallow waters make it ideal for small children to play in. Next door to the family beach, there is a long stretch of beach with protected sand dunes running the length of it. This part of the beach evolves into a naturist zone for those wishing to maximise their suntans! The picturesque marina with large and small boats and yachts offers a great selection of small beach bars and restaurants, and for those feeling active, why not take a walk along the beachfront boardwalk which stretches along the coast, or enjoy a round or two at Cabopino Golf.
Elviria
Located just a 10 minute drive from Marbella Centre, the resort of Elviria is a great location for those looking to relocate to a picturesque, family-friendly area. With all the amenities one expects from a town, but with wide, open streets, plenty of green spaces and some of the best beaches right on the doorstep, Elviria’s charm appeals to those who want the convenience of urban living in peaceful surroundings. Residents and holidaymakers are drawn to the wide, well-planned avenues which house detached villas, traditional townhouses and spacious apartments, many with superb views. Manicured, lush subtropical gardens, many with swimming pools as standard, mirror the well-maintained streets and surroundings.
With several compact commercial centres, large supermarkets, independent boutiques & beauty salons, and numerous international and traditional bars and restaurants, Elviria caters well to the nicely balanced mixed of locals and foreign residents alike, and yet still enjoys a laid back, tranquil atmosphere.
The area is home to renowned golf courses, such as Santa Maria Golf and Santa Clara Golf, however other leisure activities include the Amazonia Aventura treetop adventure park, and numerous tennis clubs, sports centres and gyms.
If soaking up the sun is more your thing, head on down to the iconic Nikki Beach, located alongside the landmark Don Carlos Hotel, and enjoy a sumptuous afternoon in glamorous surroundings.
Marbella centre is an easy 10 minute drive away, and the airport can be reached in 30 minutes, however Elviria offers everything one could need, right on the doorstep.
