Malaga Airport flight increase
It’s reported Monday 19th July 2021, better known in UK circles as ‘Freedom Day’, saw nearly 60 arrivals and departures from UK airports to Malaga Airport on the Costa del Sol, traversing between London, Liverpool, Southend, Glasgow, Leeds and Birmingham, making it one of the top airports in Spain for arrivals from the UK (not far behind Mallorca, Ibiza and Alicante)
The removal of the Government-imposed 10 day quarantine for NHS- vaccinated, double jabbed travellers returning to the UK has mean that the number of flights has nearly double in comparison to the month before. In fact, according to Spanish newspaper, El Pais, Spain has seen a 400% spike in flight bookings from the United Kingdom. Spanish flight authority AENA has calculated that flights from the UK have tripled in number since the previous week.
Local residents and workers in the tourism industry believe things are looking up for the travel sector and are eager to welcome back tourists and travellers as soon as safely possible, alongside industry leaders, such as Jet2 and TUI, whose presence was strong and apparent at the airport this last week.
British holidaymakers usually make up to 30% of arrivals at Malaga Airport, and their absence has been strongly felt – however step by step, visitor numbers are rising, hotel bookings are on the up and the sun keeps on shining here on the Costa del Sol.
